Cheques presented from Ferrymead Lions

Immediate Past President Brian Hanlon presents “large” cheques to Ivan Lawson (Camp Quality), Jean Armidale (Ronald McDonald House) and Roger Martyn (Davidson House) at the last meeting for the calendar year.

Since President Bill Newsom was installed (June 2004) the Lions Club of Ferrymead has been busy with many Projects. Four Fertilizer Sales were conducted at various sites around the foot of the hills, a successful door to door collection for Braille Week was mounted in Sumner (with the help of the Mt Pleasant Scouts), we “Cleaned Up the World” (at least on the Settlers Crescent Walkway) taking away 12 big bags of rubbish, produced a Variety Show for disadvantaged children and their caregivers, acted as stage crew for the Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival at the six concerts at the Town Hall, dedicated teams have been recycling spectacles for the sight-impaired in the Pacific Islands (this is an ongoing task with many millions of dollars worth of glasses processed to date) and working on restoring a large building in Ferrymead Heritage Park belonging to the Youth Heritage Education Trust, we cleaned up the gardens and built a storage shed at Glenelg Health Camp School, constructed and strategically placed a seat in Opawa and ran a sausage sizzle at “British Weekend” at Ferrymead Heritage Park.

We have twice monthly Tea Meetings which are very social occasions with excellent speakers while our Board of Directors meet monthly to plan more monumental achievements. We dined at the Rossendale Winery preceded by a gathering in the Halswell Quarry Park and with the District Governor at Parklands Tavern.

Donations have been given to organisations named in the photo above plus Birthright, Cholmondeley Children’s Home, Lions Club of Karori Spirit of Adventure Project, Mt Pleasant Scout Group, Lions Youth Exchange Programme, , Riding for the Disabled amenities, Christchurch Oncology Trust, Christchurch Bird Rescue Trust, Beslan School Appeal (L.C.I.F.), Glenelg Health Camp School, Ferrymead Historic Tramways Society, we sent three students from Linwood College to an Outward Bound “Mind, Body and Soul” course, assisted a student on a Youth Exchange to Germany and sent a group from Bamford School sailing on the Fox 2 (below).

A total of $26 326.56.

Lions Clubs welcome prospective members. Please contact President Bill 3 849 130 or Treasurer Michael Goldschmidt 3 845 399 for further information.

Poo Sales Mushroom Bag Up

Much toil by Sam, Brian, Malcolm Kitchen, Bill, Neil, Hamish, Peter S, Doug, Vyvyan, Stan, Graeme and Murray.
Mushroom compost was flying in all directions.
Motivation was helped by a beer.
Stan was in a boiler suit and looking like he had been on a 'P' raid.
Hamish had a surprise lady friend visit for pea straw.
Great effort by all.
Murray the Lion took some pictures which will appear soon.
